Moving Ahead without Restriction
The first step is to determine whether you can list your products in GBP (formerly known as Google My Business). For most companies, this shouldn’t be an issue, but some products and services are restricted by Google. For example, these may include pharmaceuticals, gambling, alcohol or tobacco-related products, financial services, and health or medical devices. Please don’t be tempted to try and list any products from within these categories in any case. This is against Google’s terms of service and may result in account restrictions.
Adding Products to Your GBP
When you’re ready to start, log into the account that you used to establish your GBP profile in the first place. Find your profile, open it, and click the “Edit products” button. Then, follow these steps:
- Click “Get started.” This will redirect you to your GBP’s “Add product” window.
- Fill in e required fields for each product, including product category, name, high-quality image, price, description, and URL link (optional). You shouldn’t rush through any of these, and remember that the information you input here will help to make the product more appealing to your customers.
- Don’t forget to use relevant keywords, which is especially important if you plan to run any local SEO campaigns.
- Once you’ve uploaded your photo and completed all the fields, click “Publish.” A message will appear indicating that your product is being added.
- If you need to add more products, simply click the “Add next product” button and follow the same steps.
- If you need to make any changes, you can go back to the profile and select the product from the list
When customers view your wares from the “Products” tab, the items will be displayed in a carousel. They’ll be able to click on individual product cards to see details and also find related products from within a product category tab.
Is Listing Products Wwithin Your GBP a Good Idea?
It’s well worth listing all your products within your GBP. It should certainly help if you run any local SEO campaigns. In this case, your GBP product should show up when people search locally for these items.
Many small companies use the Products feature of their GBP to break into e-commerce selling for the first time. And remember that all of your products will appear on both the laptop and mobile versions of Google Search to give you the best exposure.
Finally, don’t forget that this is not a “one-and-done” operation. Make sure that you regularly update or manage your product listings to keep everything fresh and up to date.
